HOTEL TAPA TOUR in MADRID - The gastronomic route of 2021: Shall we go for tapas?
The summer season is finally coming to an end for the Spanish tourism sector, hotels, restaurants and others are preparing to make the most of the last doses of summer, and it still makes you want to go out and have a good time with these events with these events before the autumn season begins. Madrid's businesses dedicated to this sector are no exception and as every year, since 2016, will be held a new edition of Hotel a new edition of Hotel Tapa Tour, which has also been held in the city of Barcelona. But what exactly does it consist of? So far this year, Spain is showing better numbers than last year's unfortunate than last year's unfortunate year, although, unfortunately, it seems impossible to recover or at least to come at least get a little closer to the numbers of 2019: only in the month of July 2021 Spain received more than 4.4 million tourists, that makes 100,000 tourists more than last year. The tapa for the SpaniardThe Spanish tapa has a long history, but not only that, for Spaniards, far from being a traditional dish, it means much more than that, the tapa is the national culture brought to the kitchen. You can find from simple olives to a good dish of pinchos (various foods mounted on a slice of bread), but never without losing the main idea, which is simplicity and speed, these dishes will always be small and usually to be shared in a group, since the idea is to try a little bit of everything. The origin of the tapa as we know it today comes from the Civil War, given the scarcity of food, there was no other way to eat, others say that it was a courtesy in the bars, and by the way they incited clients to consumption by the amount of salt it contained. One way or another, what is clear is that behind these reasons there are several antecedents, for example: During the Middle Ages it is said that Alfonso X el Sabio (the Wise) fell ill and as a medical solution he was prescribed a sip or two of wine, to accompany the wine, he ate small amounts of food, Once he recovered, he ordered that a ration of food should be served whenever wine was ordered, as he did during his illness, as it was said to cover up his defects by making it more difficult to get drunk. Los Reyes Católicos (Catholic Monarchs) also did that in order to reduce the effects of alcohol: during their reign, bar patrons could not ask for alcohol before lifting the tapa. Later it would be adopted the custom of putting a slice of something on top of the glass to keep out dust, sand or flies in summer. Thanks to the influence of historical figures such as Fernando II or Felipe II, this this custom became popular in the bars. In the Golden Age the French "étape" was called in Spain tapa, recognized as the place of provisioning of the soldiers, following this, tapear would be the action of provisioning, montar tapa to prepare and to plan the provisioning, and ir a tapa to go to a provisioning point. This, added to the fact that the previous custom of placing a slice of something on top of a glass as a cover (tapa), made it increasingly common to accompany smaller foods with the principal dish. In the 19th century, the farmers, in order to better support the day in the fields, took something to accompany the wine, and so on the tapas were gaining in quality, and began to be more elaborated including other types of food, not only small slices but also olives, anchovies and sardines, which were placed on top of wooden lids. Finally in the twentieth century the popular custom of covering the wine glass was still maintained, but in other places such as Almería it was not only done to prevent something from getting into the glass, but also to preserve the aroma of the wine, for customers to chat happily and for commercial reasons. Nowadays, the tapa has become an essential item in bars, and in a way, this may explain the social and leisure character that we Spaniards, give to going out to restaurants and bars with family and friends, in fact, thanks to this meaning that we give it, this type of events exist, since necessarily the meaning of "tapear" comes from accompanying social interaction with some food. Depending on the area of the Spanish territory you can find several tapas: HOTEL TAPA TOUR 2021This 2021 from September 16 to 26 you have a date at the most emblematic hotels in Madrid, do not be scared by the price, because the organization of the event has ensured that going out for tapas is not so expensive.
